Personality: Shin is a man who oxymoronically praises two things above all else: simplicity and chaos. He’s reserved and resistant to things like drama and gossip, keeping himself well-removed from the antics of other members of the Family (his boss En’s organization) whenever he deems them to be too much of a hassle. He keeps quiet when lower-ranking individuals such as Ebisu act out and upon a request from Fujita for extra training his reply is nigh immediate: “no way, that sounds like such a drag”. Even when given a chance to commission new fashionable clothing for a party his only request is that it be all black and when invited to high society events he concerns himself primarily with the food and staying well out of the way.
That said, for all of Shin’s healthy living, diligence, and reliability, he’s never more alive and engaged than when he’s in combat. All of his aforementioned collectedness flies out the window when he’s truly given a chance to let loose and perform the job he’s been hired by En to do: “cleaning”, the euphemism used throughout the series to refer to Shin’s work as a hitman. While he maintains his professionalism against weak enemies, the second he senses a real challenge he becomes far more ferocious and revels in the battle. As a sorcerer within the world of Dorohedoro he has access to unique magic, and the nature of his only furthers his sadistic nature – no matter how much he cuts or harms someone they will not die unless he should wish it. This also makes Shin particularly valuable when it comes to interrogation and torture, further gritty work that he never turns away from.
This violent streak has its roots in his adolescence; he was raised in Hole (the world of non-magic users) by his human father, living there peacefully until it became known that his mother was a sorcerer. The people of Hole, having a strong hatred towards all sorcerers due to their regular usage of humans as practice dummies for their magical exploits, converged on Shin and his father. They murdered the latter and triggered the former’s desire for revenge by doing so, placing the young half-sorcerer on his path towards awakening his magic. In fact, his need to grow more powerful was so strong that he willingly mutilated his own arms to search for magic-producing veins.
He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals even if it’s rare that they ever exceed his normal day-to-day assignments, preferring to spend time off either exercising or playing with his dog.
The only person who regularly and consistently sparks Shin’s softer side is his partner, Noi. Because she was there for him when he first journeyed from Hole to the world of the magic users and has employed her healing magic on multiple occasions to save his life, there’s no one he relies on more or considers closer to him. They are regularly seen hanging out even when off the clock, frequenting restaurants where they joke with one another, compete in random challenges that either of them dream up, or discuss any matters that happen to be troubling them. It’s in these moments that we see Shin’s more healthily competitive nature and his tendency to even tease those he cares about, regularly referring to himself as her senpai and affectionately reprimanding her actions on the field. He is highly protective of her, showing an intense loyalty that goes well and beyond just their workplace relationship and showcases his ability to become very close to those who share his views. Furthermore he’s shown to have a sense of honor and duty when it comes to people who have helped him; when the doctors from Hole that aided him after he hurt his own arms show up again in the story and are working in opposition to Shin, he still staunchly refuses to hurt them and even safeguards them in his room for several days to protect them.
Finally, Shin is shown to be a guarded and almost paranoid man thanks to his time in Hole, always hyper-aware of his surroundings and even fixated on eating extremely quickly to both keep his food from being stolen and to keep from being distracted.
Abilities & Skills: Shin’s primary form of fighting is a combination of his considerable physical strength and his clawhammer. Furthermore he has access to smoke, the source of a magic user’s power as well as its physical essence. Shin’s smoke contains his magical power — the ability to slice any living thing and have it stay alive, even in pieces — as well as showcasing the ability to shield him from attacks such as bullets.
Inventory/Companions: Shin will be in possession of his trusty claw hammer, his devil-made heart-shaped mask, and his signature suit.

Reason: Shin’s identity is strongly tied to his sorcerer heritage, not only by birth but by choice. He fought intensely hard to be able to use magic and his father was killed as a result of his true nature being exposed; having access to it is extremely important to him.
